Natural Dyes
Natural dyes are biodegradable, non-toxic and non-allergenic, making them generally better for the environment and for use human use, as they don’t have any of the carcinogenic components which are found in many synthetic dyes.
Natural dyes are safer than synthetic dyes because there are less chemicals. Chemicals are used to help the dyes adhere to natural fibres (mordants), the most common ones are alum (potassium aluminum sulfate or aluminum acetate) and cream of tartar. Alum is considered non-toxic when used properly.
